XBMC ported to A4-based Apple TV, iPad, iPhone 4, brings apps, 1080p

Amplify’d from www.appleinsider.com
The XBMC software, which already runs on the previous Mac OS X-based, Intel x86 Apple TV, has now been released to work on the ARM Architecture A4 chip used in the new iOS version, offering the ability to install apps and play content formats Apple doesn't natively support on its $99 box.

The new port makes Apple TV one of the cheapest devices that can run the XBMC platform (originally targeted at the first generation Xbox as "Xbox Media Center"), but it's not just cheap; it also appears to be quite powerful.

Nike+ SportWatch GPS

Nike has taken their already popular Nike+ shoe-based sensor and paired it with TomTom GPS technology in order to create the ultimate personal trainer. The Nike+ SportWatch GPS ($TBA) tracks the accuracy of your trip, while the Nike+ sensor tracks your time, pace, distance, calories burned, and heart rate, then posts them to NikePlus.com so you can view your runs and set new goals. If you need a little motivation, it'll also send you onscreen reminders and give you a pat on the back for new personal records.

Avatar Blu-ray 3D Review

Very agreeable review

Many years from now, when the entire 3D-thing has sorted itself out and become mainstream (if it doesn't fall flat on its face and fail), people are going to look back and say that Avatar was the film that brought hope to the early adopters. I won't go out on a limb and say that it is the best looking home video of all-time, but it is the best looking 3D film without a doubt. The surround track is one of the best I've ever heard and it made me appreciate the system that I own. The current reigning box office champ is sadly only easily available to folks snapping up a 3D set from Panasonic, but I suppose that if one were really desperate for it, they could just buy the Ultimate Pack and ditch the glasses (as they won't work with a set from Samsung, Sony, or any other brand). My only real caveat about the Blu-ray 3D version is that it loses a lot of its impact on a small screen. If you can afford a 54" or larger 3D set or a 3D projector, you are going to want this very badly. A landmark product.

DVD-lovers, start your engines! On Monday, the developers of the free, open-source video transcoder HandBrake released an update that’s small in number change but large in feature additions.

HandBrake 0.9.5 adds presets for the iPhone 4, the iPad, and the second-generation Apple TV; allows editing of queued jobs; includes support for SSA subtitles; can now find the VLC media player (required for HandBrake to convert encrypted DVDs) in the user’s Application folder; supports the Blu-ray disc structure (but doesn’t decrypt Blu-ray discs); and more.
